Greenland Reflects on 30 Years of Cooperation in the Arctic Council

Greenland's former prime minister, Lars-Emil Johansen, and the Chair of the Arctic Council on behalf of the Kingdom of Denmark, Múte B. Egede, reflect on three decades of cooperation in the council.

Thirty years ago, Greenland helped establish the Arctic Council. The first Greenlandic signatory and today’s chair met to reflect on three decades of Arctic cooperation.

On 19 September 1996, Greenland's then Prime Minister, Lars-Emil Johansen, signed the Ottawa Declaration establishing the Arctic Council on behalf of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Today, Greenland's Foreign Minister, Múte Bourup Egede, serves as Chair of the Arctic Council on behalf of the kingdom.

In connection with the Arctic Council's 30th anniversary, Johansen and Egede met to reflect on three decades of dedicated cooperation within the council.
