Iceland Still on List of EU Application Countries

In Mid-March, the Icelandic government requested that Iceland no longer should be considered an applicant country. But on the European Union’s website, Iceland still remains on the list of candidate countries, along with Albania, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.

This is reported by the Icelandic newspaper Nútíminn.

On Friday it was reported that Iceland was no longer listed as a candidate or potential candidate country on the website of the European Commission.

Iceland gave no reason for dropping the bid when the government announced the decision in March. But the two Eurosceptic parties that won the election in 2013 said the nation already enjoyed full membership benefits through deals with the European Union.
