UiT Norway's Arctic University and Rana municipality to collaborate for business development in the north

UiT Norway's Arctic University and Rana municipality have recently signed a cooperation agreement in which, through closer cooperation, the parties will facilitate increased social and business development in Mo i Rana and Helgeland, Northern Norway.

Rector at UiT Norway's Arctic University, Dag Rune Olsen, and mayor of Rana municipality, Geir Waage (Ap), signed the general cooperation agreement

"A university like UiT has both muscle and resources. We have a social mission, but we cannot do much of this alone. None of us exist in a vacuum. If we are to succeed in our social mission, then we simply have to do it together with you", says Dag Rune OIsen, rector at UiT Norway's Arctic University in a press release.

The cooperation agreement lasts for five years. Among other things, it will ensure a simpler dialogue and closer cooperation on recruitment and marketing of studies, in order to ensure the region's qualified workforce.

"What we have done today is a win in relation to Rana municipality's vision that we should be Norway's green industrial capital and that the future is renewable, says mayor of Rana municipality, Geir Waage (Ap).

He places particular emphasis on the importance of connecting the industrial environment in Rana as closely as possible to the educational institutions, the press release states.

"This is important both when it comes to the education of those who will enter the industry, but also that UiT and companies in the industrial park can carry out research and development to find even smarter sustainable solutions", says Waage.

The agreement will, among other things, ensure a simpler dialogue and closer cooperation on recruitment and marketing of studies, in order to secure the region's qualified workforce.
