Finland to Organize European Summit on the Arctic
In September, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will host the European Arctic Summit in Rovaniemi, Northern Finland. Several heads of state and government of EU countries, as well as the EU foreign policy chief and the president of the European Council, will participate.

The European Arctic Summit will be held in Rovaniemi on 13 and 14 September, the Finnish government announces.
The aim of the summit is to strengthen the EU’s common strategic approach to the Arctic region as its geopolitical significance continues to grow rapidly.
“The Arctic region is an increasingly important part of Europe's security environment. The European Union has direct interests in its stability, security and sustainable development. It is very valuable to be able to discuss these issues together with a comprehensive group of EU leaders,” says Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (National Coalition Party).
The summit will be attended by German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Romanian President Nicușor Dan.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and President of the European Council António Costa will also be present.
In connection with the meeting, the leaders of the EU member states and institutions will have a working dinner on Sunday 13 September with the Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
Prime Minister Orpo has previously invited EU leaders to Northern Finland. In December 2024, he hosted a north-south Summit in Saariselkä, Lappland, focusing on security, defence and preparedness.
