A master's thesis by Danish Signe Lyngholm Lindbjerg demonstrates that there is a clear difference between how Danish politicians refer to Greenland today compared what it was before, according to KNR.
The change came after US President Trump proposed buying Greenland in 2019.
Lindbjerg’s research shows that prior to the USA’s attempt to buy Greenland, Danish politicians’ references to Greenland were characterized by their viewing it as an extension of Denmark into the Arctic, and they spoke of the Realm as one unit. Today, they talk more about the different parties of the Realm (Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, journ.note) as three equal partners rather than one unit.
“There is a desire to make relations more equal”, Signe Lyngholm Lindbjerg says to the paper.
