The Faroe Islands and the EU Expand Trade Agreement

For the first time in 12 years, changes to the trade agreement between the EU and the Faroe Islands are introduced, according to Sermitsiaq. The agreement entered into force in 1998.

The Faroe Islands have for years wanted to change the agreement as it argues that it is most beneficial for the EU.

Early October, the parties agreed that the Faroe Islands may export sprat as well as up to 20,000 tons of fish food toll free to the EU, whereas the EU gets to export 40 tons of sheep meat toll free to the Faroe Islands, equaling 7.7 kilograms of sheep meat per Faroese inhabitant.

These are the first changes to the trade agreement since 2007.
