The Norwegian Fisheries Directorate has decided to halt the establishing of fish farming facilities in area of Vegaøyan World Heritage Site.
“This case is clearly different from other typical cases of clearing areas for [fish farming] facilities. We have thus decided that the Nordland County decision from 2018 regarding clearing the facility for fish faming will not be implemented until the appeals [against the decision] are processed”, explains Coast and Fish Farming Director Øyvind Lie at the Directorate.
The Directorate expects the appeals to be processed by 15 July 2020.
