Scandic Hotels AS has sued North Cape Municipality about whether or not a local permit is required for the hotel chain to demand parking fees on the North Cape plateau. The Norwegian State has now joined the case a support party for the municipality.
A support party is someone who enters a case in support of one of the parties.
The main issue of the case is whether or not Scandic, which operates the parking place at the North Cape plateau, is required to obtain permission from the municipality to demand parking fees. Scandic says no, the municipality says yes. The municipality won the initial case before the District Court, and the hotels appealed.
“Getting a clarification about when a permission from the municipality is required to demand parking fees for access to outdoor areas is of significant legal principle interest. The State therefore wants to offer North Cape municipality assistance in the case when it is to be heard before the Appeals Court”, says Norwegian Climate and Environment Minister Sveinung Rotevatn (Left).
