Norwegian Minke Whale Quota Remains the Same in 2019

The Norwegian Fisheries Minister has set the minke whale quota for 2019 at 1.278 whales, which is the same as in last year, according to a press release.

In 2018, 11 vessels participated in the minke whale hunt and caught a total of 454 animals, a small increase from the previous year. There are more than 100,000 minke whales in Norwegian waters.

The quota has been set based on calculations developed by the science committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC), which guarantees sustainable catching of minke whales.
