Norwegian Government to Increase Security, in Particular in the North

The Norwegian government proposes to allocate a total of NOK 100 million (€ 10 million) to initiatives against foreign intelligence, mixed threats and increased presence in the High North.

Justice and Preparedness Minister Emilie Enger Mehl (Center Party) says the government will strengthen the Police Security Authority (PST) as well as the police with personnel and equipment that is to provide increased operative capacity and presence, in particular in the northernmost counties. The government allocates NOK 57 million tot his work, which is to contribute towards a new unit in the police and PST aimed at countering mixed threats, increase counterintelligence and presence in Northern Norway.

In this perspective, the government also wants to ensure improved control in Svalbard and proposes NOK 8 million to introducing periodical control of persons in Svalbard.
