Norwegian Authorities Want to Establish Quality Norms for Wild Reindeer

Increased human activity limits the living areas of wild reindeer in Norway and can pose a threat to its existence in the longer run. At present, work is ongoing to establish a quality norm for wild reindeer.

A series of nature, environment and estate owner organizations have published a joint statement in support of a proposal from the Norwegian Environmental Directorate that is currently on hearing, according to the Norwegian Hunter and Fishermen’s Association.

The organizations expect the quality norm to be established and operationalized as soon as possible, and argue the goal should be to have the first classification done in 2021.
