Nordics Commit to Emergency Preparation Collaboration

The Nordic countries have decided to increase emergency preparedness cooperation in the future, according to RUV Iceland. This is among the highlights of the joint declaration of prime ministers at the Nordic Council meeting in Copenhagen this week.

The coronavirus pandemic has shown the importance of being prepared for anything, the statement from the prime ministers says. As a result, they want the Nordic region to cooperate in preparing for a wide variety of emergencies and crises.

The climate crisis, security and protection were also under discussion at the Council, where NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg addressed delegates.

The meeting was attended by four Nordic prime ministers and the leaders of the autonomous Åland Island, Faroe Islands, and Greenland. Sweden’s Nordic affairs minister, Anna Hallberg, stood in for her country’s prime minister.
