New Swedish Ambulance Planes Stopped by Winter Weather

The new Swedish ambulance planes purchased by Swedish regions will be unable to land through several days of the year, according to documents revealed to SVT Norrbotten.

The six new Pilatus PC-24 planes, which cost SEK 700 million combined, cannot land or take off when ice is formed on the ground from below, nor are they allowed to fly through in-air ice formation. There were no such restrictions for the planes previously used in air ambulance traffic.

For the past couple of years, there have been reports of 10 days of such icy ground in Östersund. And as for the airport in Kiruna, there were reports of ice formation for 18 days in December.
