Erik Jensen, chair of the new government coalition party Siumut in Greenland, says he and the party want a defense education program to be established in Kangerlussuaq, according to Sermitsiaq. The education program was one of the items on the agenda when the Danish government adopted an Arctic defense capacity package of DKK 1,5 billion.
“We are in favor of a defense education program in Kangerlussuaq. However, as for the details of the capacity package, that is something we will have to discuss with our coalition partner in the coming time.”
Greenland’s new foreign minister, Naalakkersuisoq for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry is Vivian Motzfeldt of the Siumut party.
“Siumut’s goal is to take back the area of foreign policy [from Denmark]. That is our main ambition. However, when and how that is going to happen is something we will have to discuss with our new coalition partner”, Jensen says to the paper.
