Fish species that were previously unknown to the Arctic are now found there on a regular basis. Scientists believe it is related to the warming of oceans, according to Nunatsiaq News.
Canadian scientists cooperate with local communities in the Canadian North to monitor and track changes in fish stocks.
So far, results indicate that the new arrivals have problems finding food in the Arctic winter. Species already enogenous to the Arctic are better adopted to their surroundings, such as e.g. having large eyes in order to see their prey better. Whether or not the newly arrived fish species in the Arctic will adapt to their new surroundings and be able to survive, remains to be seen.
