New CEO for Battery Company Freyr

Former Microsoft CEO Birger Steen has been appointed CEO and board member of the battery company Freyr. This is revealed in a press release from the company on Thursday.

Steen is chairman of the board of Nordic Semiconductor ASA and Pagero, will become CEO of Freyr from 21 August.

CEO Tom Einar Jensen has been appointed working chairman, while founder and working chairman Torstein Dale Sjøtveit retires.

"With Birger as CEO and Tom as working chairman, I can retire in accordance with our succession plan and be confident that the organization is in very competent hands. I am grateful for the support from our shareholders, employees, customers, strategic partners, board members, and other key stakeholders who have contributed to Freyr's success since its foundation in 2018," says Sjøtveit in the press release.

In addition to the change in management, Freyr's top company will be moved from Luxembourg to the USA during 2023. The company has so far not announced where in the USA it will be based. This is reported by E24.

Giga Arctic is Freyr Battery's planned battery factory in Mo i Rana. The company has also announced a venture in the USA with the construction of the Giga America factory in Coweta County in the state of Georgia.
