The Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries has set a total quota of 6,725 tons of snow crab catching on the Norwegian shelf for 2022.
This represents a 255 tons increase from 2021 and is in keeping with advice from the Norwegian Institute for Marine Research.
21 tons of the total quota have been allocated for research purposes in 2022.
Out of consideration for the snow crab’s changing shells, catching snow crab will be prohibited in the period 1 July to 31 October. This is also in keeping with research advice as well as with input from the industry itself, the ministry says.
