Increase in violence causes worry in Greenland

The number of violent incidents reported to Greenland’s police in 2019 increased by 33 percent compared to the previous year, according to Sermitsiaq. These figures worry the police, police chief Bjørn Tegner Bay says to the newspaper.

The main focus for the police throughout 2019 has been the initiative against sexual offences against children and youth. The police does not consider the increase in this number a negative thing, as it rather means that more incidents than before are being reported.

There is a huge difference between the different towns in Greenland when it comes to the number of incidents reported, and the police chief says that leaves something to ponder.
