Iceland Wants to Receive NATO Vessels

There is an expressed interest in Iceland in facilitating the port of Helguvik so that it may receive NATO warships in relation to the NATO facilities at nearby Keflavik Airport, according to Morgenbladet. Helguvik is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland.

Halldor Karl Hermannsson at Reykjanes Port says the project is well past the drawing board, and that the work so far has been carried out by local port authorities.

NATO has not expressed a formal desire of such facilitation and is not formally involved with the process at present.
