Greenland’s joining the Paris Agreement was meant to be processed and decided on during the Spring convention of the Greenlandic parliament, the Inatsisartut. However, this item has been withdrawn from the convention agenda, according to Sermitsiaq.
This is so because the parties of the new coalition government, Siumut and Inuit Ataqatigiit, agreed during the government formation negotiations that there should first be an impact assessment.
Last fall, Greenland Premier Mute B. Egede traveled to the climate summit in Scotland and proclaimed that Greenland wants to join the Paris Agreement. However, that has now been postponed.
The parties have agreed that the impact assessment should be finalized during the fall.
