Following more than two years’ work, the Greenlandic fisheries commission will present its report on Thursday, according to Sermitsiaq.
The commission has a.o. processed governance plans to prevent overfishing, transparency in the fisheries industry and governance, distribution of fish resource ownership, and looked into how to secure young fishermen access to fish resources.
The report was established by the previous self-rule government, the then-Naalakkersuisut, on 8 March 2019 and was tasked with producing recommendations for a new Fisheries Act as well as other measures that might contribute positively to development opportunities in the fish industry, and also contribute to society’s gaining the most from the industry and the ocean resources.
