Greenland to Control Own Cyber Defense

Greenland is currently working on a law on cyber and information security, according to Sermitsiaq.

With this law in place, the Digitalisation Office in Greenland will hold the overall responsibility for Greenlands cyber defense and a team will be established to provide cyber and information security. This is, however, expected to cooperate closely with Center for Cyber Security in Denmark.

If everything goes according to plan and if the Naalakkersuisut approves of the proposal, it is to be presented this autumn.

Since the introduction of new legislation in 2014, the Danish defense’s military intelligence services in Denmark have held the overall responsibility to defend the country against cyberspace threats. However, the Act does not apply to Greenland and the Faroe Islands, although it could in theory come into force there too through a royal regulation.
