The Greenlandic party Nunatta Qitornai rejects the Paris Agreement and favors the Kuannersuit mining project (also known by its Danish name Kvanefjell) in southern Greenland, according to Sermitsiaq.
The party draws a line from independence to the mine, and Party chair Vittus Qujaukitsoq says to the paper that the raw material industry is required in order for Greenland to be able to realize its goal of independence.
Greenland’s parliament, the Naalakkersuisut, in 2016 requested Denmark make territorial reservations when ratifying the Paris Agreement. Greenland is thus not bound by the international commitment to reducing climate gas emissions.
