The Danish government recently announced that Denmark will increase its annual defense spending until it reaches the target of two percent of its GDP by 2033.
However, that is a decision in which Greenland’s self-rule government Naalakkersuisut has not been involved, and that is not okay, says Greenland Premier Mute B. Egede (IA), according to Sermitsiaq.
The consequences for Greenland are not known, and it is still not clear for the Naalakkersuisut whether or not the Arctic and Greenland have been part of the considerations leading up to the decision, he says.
The theme will be on the agenda in an upcoming meeting between Danish PM Mette Frederiksen and Greenland Premier Mute B. Egede (IA).
