In 1951, 22 Greenlandic children were sent to Denmark to be raised by Danish families, children that have later been referred to as «the experiment children». Now, the Greenlandic government refuses to enter into any out-of-court settlement about compensation, according to Minister for Social Issues and the Elderly Astrid Krag.
According to Sermitsiaq, the government argues that the acknowledgement itself of the errors of the past is the key point, and that the most important thing is to avoid that history repeats itself.
The experiment children still have the opportunity to sue the state. According to the paper, IA party member Aaja Chemnitz Larsen, who brought the matter before the minister, says that she interprets the official answer so as to indicate that the experiment children explore legal opportunities.
