Greenland’s self-rule government, the Naalakkersuisut, is currently looking into the opportunity for introducing user payment in the biggest ports, according to KNR.
Many of Greenland’s ports are currently not suited for the use they are subject to, and the DKK 25 million that are allocated annually are not by far enough to meet the various needs.
According to the Naalakkersuisut, introducing user payment in the bigger ports will make these self-funded and may cover expenses for operations and maintenance. At the same time, the amount allocated on the national budget each year will then be available for use in the smaller ports.
A potential introduction of user payment is already authorized through the Port Law adopted by the Inatsisartut, Greenland’s parliament, in 2015.
