Great Britain Levies High Duties on Greenlandic Seafood Products

Following Brexit entering into force on 1 January this year, export of Greenlandic seafood products to Great Britain has become subject to high custom taxes following a trade agreement between Great Britain and the EU, according to Sermitsiaq.

The reason for this is that goods from Greenland is re-exported from Denmark to Great Britain and, as a consequence, levied with a 20 percent additional tax.

“This represents a huge problem for Greenlandic and Danish companies exporting Greenlandic seafood to Great Britain”, says Director Poul Meldgaard Jensen from the Danish Seafood Council.
