According to the Governor of Svalbard, the fire service has gained control of a fire that broke out in an apartment building in Longyearbyen early Monday morning. Several people were evacuated, also from nearby buildings. This is reported by NRK.
"As of now, we have no one reported missing to us. There are 55 people who have been evacuated", says assistant head of the Svalbard Governor, Sølvi Elvedahl to NRK just before 08.00.
"There are a total of 12 housing units that are affected", says communications advisor at the Governor office, Terje Carlsen to VG.
The building is now completely burnt down.
