A majority of the foreign affairs committee of the Faroe Islands’ parliament, the Lagting, has decided that Comittee Chairman Jenis av Rana may negotiate with the Danish government about a new military radar in the Faroe Islands, according to Sermitsiaq.
Rana will soon be meeting with Danish Defense Minister Trine Bramsen du discuss whether a new air monitoring radar should be established at the Sornfelli mountain.
Once the outcome of these talks is ready, the committee will decide whether or not to approve of the outcome or not.
The radar will have an expected cost of DKK 400 million, and it is part of the Danish DKK 1.5 billion capacity package for the Arctic.
