The Englander Lewis Pugh has swum 7.8 kilometer over 12 days in the icy fjord near Ilulissat in Greenland, according to KNR.
He wants to aim direction towards how fast the ice is melting and what this means for the climate all over the world.
“We have seen so many natural disasters this year, from giant forest fires in Greece to floodings in Germany and extreme blizzards in Texas. I want everyone to know what goes on here in the Arctic”, Pugh says to the paper.
Lewis Pugh is a UN Protector of the Oceans and has previously swum in other extreme cold waters too, like on the North Pole, Mount Everest and in Antarctica. He wants the UN climate conference in Glasgow in November do decide to protect 30 percent of the world’s oceans.
