Denmark Increases Military Presence in the Arctic

The Danish frigate ‘Peter Willemoes’ berthed in Nuuk for the first time ever this week, according to KNR. The frigate is to be involved in monitoring and asserting Danish sovereignty around the Faroe Islands and Greenland along with other inspection vessels.

This reflects a broad political desire to increase the Danish defense capacity in the Arctic, according to the Danish Arctic Command.

‘Peter Willemoes’ is one of the key vessels of the Danish navy and is equipped with missile systems and several kinds of cannons. It has a maximum speed of 28 knops and an action range of 9,000 nautical miles.
