Sermersooq municipality in Greenland has decided not to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Hans Egede’s arrival to Greenland this year, according to KNR.
The Local Council made the decision.
The Council had prevously allocated DKK 2.7 million on its 2021 budget for the anniversary, however, following a discussion in the Council it was decided to not mark the occasion.
“We will rather spend the money on honoring our culture […] and we would also like to commemorate the [anniversary of the] founding of Nuuk in 2028”, says Mayor Charlotte Ludvigsen (IA).
