Climate Lawsuit to Supreme Court

The Norwegian Supreme Court will start processing the so-called ‘climate lawsuit’ on 4 November.

Greenpeace Nordic, Young Friends of the Earth Norway and two other NGO’s have filed a case against the Norwegian state represented by the Ministry of Oil and Energy, claiming that the awarding of petroleum exploitation licenses on the Norwegian continental shelf during the 23rd licensing round in 2016 be ruled fully or partially invalid.

The organizations have lost the case in two previous court rulings and have appealed it to the Supreme Court, which will process the case in a plenary session from 4 November onwards.
