After four years of consulting with municipalities, Greenland’s self-rule authorities, the Naalakkersuisut, has taken a U-turn when it comes to housing policy, according to Sermitsiaq.
At its meeting on 6 February, the Naalakkersuisut decided to work for a model in which ownership of publicly owned houses for rent is to be centralized instead of transferred to the municipalities. The Naalakkersuisut claims the new policy initiative will lead to a series of advantages due to economies of scale.
The only exception will be Iluut, a company fully owned by the self-rule authorities.
