The Canadian company Baffinland has proposed a 110-kilometre northern railway that would se up to 20 iron-ore carrying train trips per day, according to Nunatsiaq News.
But questions from interventors on day three of a public hearing suggests the company’s consultation with Inuit living in North Baffin has not been good enough. The company has already changed its route proposal following input from previous workshops.
The company has claimed to be expecting 12 million tons of iron ore each year, a figure that has come into questioning following a document that mentions Baffinland plans to expand production up to 18 million tons per year.
