The UK has sent a frigate into the North Sea to patrol near gas pipelines and to work alongside the Norwegian Navy. This is reported by NTB.
Several countries in Europe are now working to increase security around submarine cables and pipelines after powerful explosions put the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea out of play last week. The decision on British guard duty was taken in the Expeditionary Force, a group of ten Northern European countries, including Norway.
The UK is also to buy two specialist vessels to protect such pipelines, the first of which will be operational by the end of 2023.
