Freyr Battery has entered into a collaboration agreement with UiT – the Arctic University of Norway on knowledge development and innovation within the battery industry and its various value chains. That is reported by the university in a press release.
The company will build a large-scale factory in Mo i Rana in Northern Norway with a loan and guarantee from the government of NOK 4 billion. Last month, Freyr signed a contract worth NOK 30 billion with Nidec Corporation, a Japanese manufacturer of electric motors.
The factory will be based upon new technology, and with its establishment comes a great need for more and new expertise. This forms the basis for the agreement with UiT, which is also present in Mo i Rana and is expanding its activity in Helgeland, the southernmost district in Northern Norway.
"For Freyr, it is absolutely crucial to build good milieus of expertise in the region. It will be those who can provide valuable educational programs, who will win in an ever-increasing competition," says Tom Jensen, CEO of Freyr Battery.
"UiT is proud to collaborate with Freyr on being a leading provider of knowledge in the region. Our strategy is to be a driving force in the north, and that includes contributing to knowledge about new and sustainable industry in the region," says UiT Rector Dag Rune Olsen.
