Arctic Council Agrees on Marine Pollution Action Plan

At the Arctic Council Ministerial Meeting in Reykjavik Thursday, the eight Arctic states agreed on an action plan to make the oceans cleaner.

The marine pollution action plan consists of some 60 measures to take in order to reduce marine pollution in the Arctic. The plan includes measures to reduce waste from fisheries, aquaculture, and shipping, as well as to improve waste reception and management in ports.

It also involves measures aimed at cleaning beaches, research and monitoring, as well as international cooperation.
