Wants Shorter Air Stripe at Greenland Airport

Chairman of the Board Johannes Egholm Hansen of Kalaallit Airports in Greenland in a letter to the self-rule authorities says that the only way in which a new airport in Qaqortoq can be realized is through shortening the runway, according to Sermitsiaq.

A tender competition for construction work on the airport led to five bids that were all significantly higher than the funding provided for the project, and the competition was later annulled.

In an email to the self-rule authorities, Egholm Hansen says the only chance of realizing the airport would be shortening the runway from 1,500 meters to 1,199 meters. The authorities have earlier categorically refused this option.
