The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) recommends that the cod quotas for 2021 be increased by some 20 percent, according to Kyst og fjord. That represents an increase of 147.000 tons of fish, which sets the total quota at 885.000 tons.
The recommendation applies to the Northeast Arctic cod stock, which is the world’s largest cod stock.
This stock is jointly managed by Norway and Russia and the two countries take out approximately equal amounts of fish.
