Pauses Military Service Admission Tests in Greenland

The Danish Defense Ministry has paused military service admission tests in Greenland following a request from the self-rule authority Naalakkersuisut, according to Sermitsiaq.

As part of the Danish defense settlement agreement, admission tests were organized in Greenland in 2018 and 2019. Nearly half of those taking the tests chose to get their education in the Armed Forces.

Now, however, the Naalakkersuisut has requested the MoD to stop organizing these tests in Greenland, so that young people in Greenland who want a career in the armed forces have to travel to Copenhagen to take the test – at their own expense.

Anna Wangenheim from the Demokratene party in Greenland criticizes the Naalakkersuisut for the decision and has repeatedly asked why they make it harder for young people to get an education within the Armed Forces.

“Stopping the ongoing plans without having a new plan makes no sense. We risk losing an entire generation”, she says.
