Nunavik Police Officer Shortage to be Alleviated by Quebec

The Nunavik Police Service is currently experiencing officer shortage, according to Nunatsiaq News. While it was nearly fully covered with 86 officers in February, the Service has a staff of only 66 this month.

“It’s the same problem we have every year,” Nunavik Police Chief Jean-Pierre Larose said. “I’ve lost a number of my officers to organizations in the south who recruit for the summer.”

The Sûreté du Québec will temporarily assign 20 of its officers to work in the region starting this week while the Nunavik Police Service deals with an officer shortage.
