Greenland’s Naalakkersuisoq (Minister) of Infrastructure Mariane Paviasen (IA) says in a statement that the self-rule government Naalakkersuisut wants to introduce user payments to more of the ports owned by the Naalakkersuisut, according to KNR.
Today, user payment has only been introduced in the capital, Nuuk, which the fishers’ organizations argue skews conditions for fishers. They want the user payment fees removed altogether.
The Naalakkersuisut rather wants to introduce user payment gradually to other towns too, and will in that way alleviate conditions for fishers in different parts of the country, it argues.
User payment will among others contribute to better maintenance and upgrading of ports, according to the authorities.
