Fears Accidents at Sea for Greenland Tourists

The founders of a tour operator in Ilulissat, Greenland are seriously worried about the extensive black market for vessels taking tourists on trips at sea without being licensed to do so, Sermitsiaq reports.

Small vessels, fishing boats and sailboats that do not hold passenger traffic licenses constitute a significant part of the tourist market for trips at sea in Greenland. Edvardt Samuelsen at Ilulissat Boat Tours argues that it is only a matter of time before something goes wrong.

Greenland’s police participated in 47 SAR operations in 2017, and 23 such operations in 2018.
