Equinor has found more oil in the Sputnik exploration well, according to petro.no. The new deposit is located some 30 kilometers northeast of the Wisting deposit, which is already to be developed.

The new deposit is estimated to contain some 19-63 million barrels of oil and lies in the Barents Sea, north of Hammerfest.

Further investigations to decide on the commercial potential of the new deposit are to be conducted before a decision is made on whether or not to develop the field.
