Swede Apprehended at the Russian Border
The Border Guard in Finnmark, Northern Norway, has apprehended a Swedish citizen for illegal border crossing.
The Border Guard in Finnmark has arrested a foreign national for crossing the border at the tri-border area during the night before Thursday, May 28th. This was reported by the Finnmark Police District.
The person crossed on foot from Norway into Finland, then entered Russia before returning to Norway. The person has been placed in custody in Kirkenes. The case is under investigation and the police have informed the neighboring countries about the incident.
When asked about the man's explanation of the border crossing and how long they can keep him in custody, police prosecutor Bjørn Erik Aune Hansen told the newspaper Sør-Varanger Avis that the man has not yet been formally questioned, but will likely be released after questioning, with a fine.
