Drilling for Heat Storage in Svalbard Longyearbyen Local Council is looking to find out whether the mountain outside the town can be used as a thermos for storing renewable energy surplus.
So Far, No Plan for Alternative Svalbard Energy Supply Mine 7 in Svalbard is still not in operation and the coal-fueled power plant only holds enough coal to supply Longyearbyen with energy for six months. As per today, there is no clear backup plan for energy supply for this vulnerable community.
