NATO’s Anti-Submarine Exercise in the High North is Underway
The NATO exercise Dynamic Mongoose began on Monday. Submarines, surface ships, and aircraft from nine nations are currently conducting anti-submarine warfare training in the North Atlantic and the High North.
NATO's annual exercise in advanced anti-submarine warfare in the High North, Dynamic Mongoose, is taking place from May 18th to 29th.
Submarines from Germany, the Netherlands, and Portugal are training to hunt and be hunted, in close interaction with air and surface forces.
Canada, France, Germany, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States are participating with maritime patrol aircraft. Ships from Norway, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal are sailing on the surface. In addition, the British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales is participating.
Norway is host nation for the exercise, which is led by NATO's Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM).
“Dynamic Mongoose demonstrates NATO’s ability to operate together in one of the world’s most strategically important maritime regions, reinforcing our commitment to the security of the High North and the North Atlantic," says Rear Admiral Bret Grabbe, Commander Submarines NATO, and continues:
"By bringing Allied forces together to train in realistic and demanding anti-submarine warfare scenarios, we ensure our forces remain ready, adaptable, and capable of responding to any challenge beneath the surface."
This year's Dynamic Mongoose is conducted as part of Arctic Sentry, NATO's initiative for enhanced coordination and visibility of allied activities in the Arctic region.
