Inatsisartut, the Greenlandic parliament, has now ratified the security agreement that Greenland, Denmark and the United States concluded in September, reports Sermitsiaq.

In the vote on Tuesday, 16 representatives voted in favor, and seven voted neither for nor against. The yes votes came from the parties Inuit Ataqatigiit, Demokraatit and Atassut, as well as one independent representative. Siumut also supports the agreement, but did not participate in the vote for various reasons.

"Today we have made an important decision for Greenland. We will cooperate with other countries. But it must be done with respect for our people, our country and our rights," Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D) comments on Facebook.
