Canada to buy six Swedish surveillance aircraft
Canada has signed a non-binding agreement with the Swedish defence and technology company Saab to purchase six GlobalEye surveillance aircraft, reports Forsvarets forum.
The aircraft will be built in Canada ans used mainly for surveillance in the Arctic. The agreement also includes the purchase of GlobalEye systems and training.
Canada had been in talks with several U.S. companies about similar agreements, but ultimately chose Saab as its supplier.
Swedish Defense lauch its first operational satellite
The Swedish Armed Forces' first military reconnaissance and surveillance satellite has been launched into space. This means that the Swedish Armed Forces are now operational in the space domain and will have their own national capacity to detect and analyze threats globally, the Swedish Armed Forces announced in a press release.
The Swedish Armed Forces' new satellite is part of the military space program in which Sweden is expanding its presence in space with around ten satellites in the coming years.
The satellite takes high-resolution images from low Earth orbit (LEO). The satellite was launched by SpaceX from Vanderberg Space Base in California, USA.
